South Meadows Middle School 8th Grader Earns Top Speller at OABE Spanish Spelling Bee

As an update to our previous story, we wanted to also congratulate Annika Welch, a South Meadows 8th grader who also won a Top Speller award at the OABE Spanish Spelling Bee. HSD had 23 students participate in the Spanish Spelling Bee in Wilsonville on Wednesday, April 23rd. These students represented seven elementary schools and one middle school from across the district. The event brought together over 70 student participants from different schools.

The Spelling Bee was in two stages. Stage 1 involved a written spelling test to determine who would advance to the next round. From that round, two HSD students qualified for Stage 2. Amahi González Fuentes, a 5th grader from Orenco Elementary, and Annika Welch, an 8th grader from South Meadows Middle School, moved forward to represent our district. Stage t2 was an oral spelling round.  Both students showed great poise and effort in the second stage of the competition. The Spelling Bee was a valuable experience for everyone involved, encouraging growth in language and confidence. We appreciate the dedication and effort of all of our students who participated,  as well as the teachers and staff who coached and encouraged them. Way to go HSD! Scroll down to see the group photo...
